MESSAGE FROM THE ARTIST:
There is something magical about the moments that interrupt us.
The red hibiscus is one of them. Magnetising. To give our full attention and awe to something that's not screaming for it or paying for it is a luxury in this age.
Bold and unapologetic, A red Hibiscus has a way of stopping you in your tracks and pulling your attention back to the present moment. In a world increasingly competing for our focus, this painting is a gentle reminder to look up, slow down and notice the beauty that already exists around us.
Created as part of my latest collection exploring humanity, presence and the joy of real life, The Art of Noticing is a celebration of those fleeting moments that reconnect us to ourselves. The flowers throughout this body of work symbolise humanity itself — a reminder of our capacity to care, connect and find meaning in the everyday.
Painted with expressive brushwork, layered colour and visible hand-made marks, the piece embraces the beauty of the hand. I wanted the work to feel alive, joyful and unmistakably human — carrying a sense of warmth and presence into the home it inhabits.
